An extra set of eyes on the road
According to a March 2006 study released by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), rear-end collisions represent 23 percent of all collisions, when the truck driver is at fault. A study by DaimlerAG adds that an extra second of warning time can prevent about 90 percent of rear-end collisions. Most rear-end collisions are preventable if the driver uses safe following distance practices.

Iteris’ radar-based AutoVue Forward Collision Warning system (FCW), manufactured by Delphi, instills driver awareness of safe following distances and also aids in reducing the chance and severity of forward collisions including, stopped vehicles. The system constantly monitors following distance and alerts the driver when safe following distance thresholds are exceeded.

dway up ahead for vehicles, or other objects in your lane. If the system detects an object in your lane, it is evaluated for being a headway alert target. Iteris’ AutoVue FCW provides a warning to the driver whenever the headway gap to the vehicle ahead falls below a designated safe following distance. A warning sounds to the driver to slow down and to increase the gap to the vehicle ahead. If the alert goes unheeded, the warning increases in intensity until a safe following distance is reached.
Default Warning Ranges*:
- Within 4 seconds to a vehicle: Cautionary Warning Alert
- Within 2 seconds to a vehicle: Tailgate Warning Alert
- Within 1 second to a vehicle: Collision Warning Alert
In addition, Iteris’ AutoVue Forward Collision Warning System has a special virtual bumper mode. This is a low speed feature that will alert the driver if their vehicle is getting too close to another vehicle while at a stop.
Every system is built and tested to vigorous OEM standards. The system is available as an aftermarket option and can be easily installed or transferred from one truck to another in only a few hours.
